In Memoriam

This says it just about right…

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion;
It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press;
It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech;
It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble;
It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial;
It is the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote;
It is the VETERAN
, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag.

From Pasadena, California we give thanks & salute those soldiers who served – and paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives – for We The People of the USA: Fathers, Mothers, Sisters, Brothers, Cousins, Grandparents, Family Relatives, Friends, and those Unknown Soldiers to us. On this Memorial Day, at the very least, we should all remember them.

The Photographers Photographer

I’ve mentioned here before the difficulty I encounter to blog and how I envy those of you who have the time & organization to blog more than once a week, and even daily!

One problem I have with blogging is just deciding on the subject! It’s not for a lack of topics.  Actually the amount of material can so overwhelm me to the point of paralyzing me from blogging until another day, or week. I call it Bloggers Block.

Luckily I didn’t have to postpone today’s post to another day. It took only 2-3 minutes to find & decide upon…Cafe Pasadena’s Believe It or Not!  Besides, it’s been waiting over 2 years for its turn, so it’s about time.

So, what’s with this blog post?

Pictured above I’m at the new Euro Pane Bakery & Cafe, between the Paseo Colorado & Citihall, back in 2010 about a month prior to its opening. (Has it been over 2 years already??)

There are numerous things, to say the least, which need to be done prior to opening a restaurant, or any business.  The activities on that particular day were part of menu planning. While the menu would be basically like the original Euro Pane, the new would have a few new wrinkles added.

On this same day I photographed the professional photographer above.  He was there with his wife. They are professional photographers & filmmakers specializing in travel. When they arrived they got most of our attention temporarily off the restaurant/food and onto their travel work and their Canon camera!

I was pleasantly surprised to hear a couple of my women friends discussing photography with this photographer. Although not pros, they definitely sounded like serious amateur photogs compared to me!  I still use only a point & shoot and ask questions later camera as my only weapon. I’m not ready to advance to the next Xpen$ive camera yet.

Food is the main purpose for my carrying a camera. What is your chief reason to have a camera??

Pasadena Doo Dah Parade

Howdy, readers.  I attended the 35th Pasadena Doo Dah Parade (DDP) this past Saturday – Cafe Pasadena’s Believe It or Not!

As usual, I was a bit late. Which is disturbingly normal.

That I came to the parade is unusual. Some loyal readers may recall Cafe Pasadena is a parade supporter but rarely a parade goer.  I don’t feel bad since apparently the same can be said for the blogger friends I didn’t see there!  They know who they are.

There has to be a very good reason for me to wake up in the morning to catch a parade.  And there were a few goodies this year! A few whacky, but good, friends I know played significant roles this year, finally!:  Pasadena PIO Emeritus Ann Erdman was Grand Marshall, Newspaperwoman/Rock-N-Roller Michelle Mills played the part of Stephanie Edwards broadcast hostess with the mostess, and Patrizzi Intergarlictika somehow was made Queen for this Doo Dah Day!  Plus,…this wood bee the first DDP I’ve watched since they skipped their Old Pasadena location for the New Pasadena parade route!  Plenty of reasons, without any excuse, to show up.

However, please don’t get the impression I’m here to report on the 2012 DDP. I must first blog about the 32nd DDP of 2009!  You know, everything in it’s time and proper order.  Especially since I believe that was the last  DDP held in Old Town Pasadena.

But I will get to the 2012 parade version, sooner or later. Well, SOONER, of course!

The girl above was the tortilla pick em up champion of the 2012 Doo Dah Parade! Someone give her a job making tacos or on the Pasadena street maintenance department. Everyone was tossing and she was cleaning up.

Have you ever been to a Doo Dah Parade?  Were you among the crowd on Saturday?
